Embeds

Build, preview and post embeds with the ,embed command — the script format, every parameter, and the variables you can use inside.

Embeds

,embed builds, saves and posts embeds with a live preview. You can drive it entirely with buttons (,embed create) or paste a script straight into it (,embed create {embed }{title: Hello }).

The embed designer is the same format with a form: fill it in, watch the message render, then copy the script it produces. Use it when you want to see exactly what a script will post before it lands in a channel.

Too long to read?

  • A script is a flat sequence of {key: value } blocks.
  • {embed } marks the message as an embed.
  • author, footer and field hold key: value pairs joined by &&.
  • \n is a newline inside a value. #rrggbb is a colour.
  • Paste the script after ,embed create, or save it with ,embed save <name> <script>.

Structure of an embed

A script is read left to right. Content outside the embed is a normal message; everything after {embed } becomes the embed itself.

{content: Rules update }{embed }{color: #8b5cf6 }{title: Server rules }{description: Be kind. No spam. }{field: name: 1. Respect && value: Treat everyone well && inline: false }{footer: text: Updated today }

Here are the following symbols the parser understands:

  • : separates the parameter name from its value
  • && is used to add multiple values to a parameter
  • } ends the parameter
  • \n splits lines inside a value

Parameters available in embeds

Parameter What it does
content The plain message posted above the embed.
embed The bare marker that turns the message into an embed. Required.
color The stripe colour, as #rrggbb.
title The embed title, up to 256 characters.
description The body, up to 4096 characters. Markdown works.
url Makes the title a link.
author name and icon (a URL), joined by &&.
thumbnail A small image in the top right corner.
image A large image under the description.
field One field: name, value and inline (true/false). Up to 25.
footer text and icon (a URL), joined by &&.
timestamp Adds the current time to the footer.

Fields

Each {field: ... } block is one row. inline: true puts fields next to each other; inline: false gives each one its own row.

{field: name: Rule 1 && value: Be kind && inline: true }{field: name: Rule 2 && value: No spam && inline: true }

Using variables in embeds

Variables are replaced when the embed is posted, so a welcome embed can greet each member by name.

{content: Welcome {user} }{embed }{description: You are member **#{membercount}** of **{server}**. }{color: #8b5cf6 }

The full token list is on Variables. A variable that cannot be resolved is left as written, so a typo is visible rather than silently blank.

Where to get embeds

  • ,embed create opens the button builder — no script required.
  • ,embed preview <script> posts a preview only you can see.
  • ,embed save <name> <script> stores a template for later.
  • ,embed post <name> [#channel] posts a saved template.
  • ,embed export <name> prints a saved template back as a script.
  • ,embed welcome set <name> [#channel] binds a template to member joins.

Staff only: the whole command is restricted to members with a staff role.
